Wander Logs.
A few places I’ve walked, eaten, and stopped to take a photo. My photographs and field notes, with a little help planning a walk of your own.
Next stop, Kanagawa.
Kamakura, Enoshima, winter lights and Yokohama. Choose a day, then take your time.

Kyoto after dark: a walk through Gion & Pontocho
Kyoto after dark. Restaurant doors, wet streets, and warm light from small windows. These are some of the things I stopped to photograph.

Yokohama Chinatown: food, lanterns & an evening walk
A cancelled flight gave me time in Yokohama. It ended up being one of my favorite stops in Japan. The harbor, the lanterns, the food. I stayed out late and nearly missed my train back to Tokyo.

A morning at Tsukiji: food, people & a market walk
Food, hands at work, and a busy morning in Tsukiji. Being a cook makes me pay attention to what’s happening on both sides of the counter.

Dotonbori at night: Osaka’s canal, food signs & side streets
Neon signs over the river. Boats making noise. People everywhere, restaurants everywhere, octopus everywhere. Dotonbori is a lot to take in. That’s what I wanted these photographs to feel like.

Kamakura: the Great Buddha, fox shrines & the streets between
The big Buddha brought me to a stop. So did the tiny foxes, the red gates and the blossoms. Kamakura gave me a lot to look at, at very different scales.

Enoshima: a train ride, a sea breeze & the last of the light
A green train. Bicycles by the water. A lane with the sea at the end of it. These are the bits of Enoshima I brought home with me.

Jewel of Shonan: Enoshima after the lights come on
Blue through the trees, purple around the tower, and the coast lit up below. Enoshima looks very different after dark.

Odaiba Retro Museum: a little door into old Tokyo
Toy boxes, old televisions, a cigarette machine. I came back with a camera roll full of the small stuff. This is Odaiba Retro Museum, tucked into DECKS Tokyo Beach.
